Origin Story: Boxsa

Kazeem descends from a sacred lineage of warrior-priests known as Èṣọ Ìbọ̀jì — the Guardians of the Realms — sworn protectors charged with holding back the forces of evil: mystical, malevolent, and supernatural beings that constantly seek to breach the veil and corrupt the living world.

But when his father turned away from the Orishas to embrace Islam, the family line was deemed broken. His father’s polygamous lifestyle, harshness, and neglect toward Kazeem and his mother only deepened the rift, leaving Kazeem estranged from his heritage. With no heirloom passed down, he carved his own path — one of pain, struggle, and rebellion.

Once a promising professional boxer, Kazeem’s career spiraled into decline. Injuries, defeats, and misfortune stripped him of glory, leaving him unable to provide for his daughter, Ruby. His father-in-law, seeing him as unworthy, took Ruby away — forbidding both her and Kazeem’s estranged partner, Chrysa, from ever being tied to him again.

As the Council of Five stirs in secret, plotting to resurrect the ancient trickster Elegbara, the Orishas sense a great imbalance. They seek a vessel to rise against the growing darkness. Kazeem’s grandfather, keeper of the old ways, calls upon him to reclaim the family’s sacred duty. Torn between disbelief and desperation, Kazeem reluctantly accepts the ancestral Amulet of the Èṣọ Ìbọ̀jì.

Bound to the Orishas, his body becomes a conduit for powers he can scarcely comprehend. Slowly, Kazeem awakens abilities that defy human limits — strength, resilience, and mystic force rooted in realms beyond the mortal plane. With these gifts, he is reborn as BOxSA — a reluctant guardian, torn between the weight of his lineage, his duty to the spirit realm, and his burning desire to one day be worthy of his daughter’s love.

The Orishas have also granted him the rare Gift of Vision — fleeting glimpses of spirits, looming danger, or fragments of possible futures. His powers are fueled by willpower and faith in the Orishas; the stronger his resolve, the greater his abilities grow. An aura of divine protection surrounds him, shielding his body from evil influences, mortal harm, and physical attacks. Bullets, blades, and brute force cannot pierce his skin, making him nearly indestructible in battle.

This trust makes him so synchronised with them that he is like them if not higher, as he has the ability to command them to do his bidding with the vast amount of wisdom in his disposal.
