The MTV Staying Alive Foundation, in partnership with SMATmedia, has officially opened applications for the MTV Shuga Naija Shorts Innovation Lab 2025, a bold and creative storytelling accelerator empowering young Nigerians to tell stories that spark social change.
This year’s Innovation Lab calls on writers, directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, and all forms of visual storytellers to create short, powerful, youth-centered films addressing health, gender equality, and empowerment themes that have long defined MTV Shuga’s impact across Africa.

At the MTV Shuga Naija Shorts Innovation Lab 2025, participants won’t just learn, they’ll create, collaborate, and compete for a spot in Nigeria’s most inspiring storytelling project.
Here’s what’s in store:
- Work side by side with top Nigerian filmmakers, producers, and health experts.
- Develop original, youth-driven stories that tackle issues like health, gender equality, and empowerment.
- Learn how to turn social impact ideas into visually stunning short films.
- End the program with a final pitch battle, where your story could be featured in the official MTV Shuga Naija Shorts 2025 lineup!

Who’s Eligible?
To qualify, you must:
- Be between 18–30 years old
- Be passionate about storytelling and social change
- Be based in Nigeria (Lagos area preferred)
- Be a writer, director, producer, cinematographer, or editor all creative backgrounds welcome
(Students from EbonyLife Creative Academy, M-Net Talent Factory, Royal Arts Academy, LASU, and UNILAG are especially encouraged to apply).
