Gamathon 2026 Set to Gather Africa’s Gaming and Creative Industry Stakeholders in Lagos

Africa’s gaming and digital art scene is gearing up for one of its biggest weeks of the year as Africa Comicade prepares to host Gamathon 2026. The annual convention has grown into a major meeting point for game developers, animators, digital artists, and tech investors across the continent.

Running across six days, the festival brings together independent creators, studio heads, and international industry leaders to exchange ideas, showcase projects, and tackle the commercial realities of building interactive media in Africa.

Gamathon 2026 will take place in Lagos from October 26th to 31st. Further event details are available here.

A Packed Six-Day Schedule Across Lagos

Unlike conventional one-site expos, Gamathon 2026 splits its activities between private executive sessions, hands-on technical workshops, and massive public showcases.

Executive Networking: The opening days feature an invite-only Industry Dinner and specialized mixers, giving studio founders, investors, and international partners a direct setting to discuss funding and co-production deals.

Women in Games Mixer: A focused session designed to connect female creators, studio owners, and executives operating across gaming, animation, and immersive tech.

Hands-On Technical Workshops: Mid-week sessions feature practical masterclasses, including dedicated Unity game development workshops aimed at sharpening the technical skills of local developers.

Industry Day at The Zone: The flagship public gathering takes place at The Zone Tech Park in Gbagada. It features panel sessions, project exhibitions, live esports tournaments, and interactive game demos.

High-Profile Speakers and International Partnerships

This year’s edition is drawing prominent voices from major global studios and industry platforms. Confirmed speakers and participants include representatives from Unity and Riot Games, highlighting growing international interest in African digital talent.

For local indie creators, having representatives from major engine creators and global publishers in the room offers a rare chance to get feedback on active builds, explore publishing options, and understand global distribution standards.

Closing out with Pop Culture and Community

Beyond the business panels and developer workshops, Gamathon continues to lean heavily into youth culture and community energy. The festival will close out on Halloween night with the Ntai Rave by Aniwe, a cosplay-filled party bringing together anime fans, gamers, and digital creators under one roof.

As local browser hits and indie games continue to break regional traffic records, gatherings like Gamathon play an essential role in turning viral success into a structured, sustainable industry.
