LAGOS, NIGERIA – Spoof Animation, a Lagos-based animation studio, has begun full production on “STORY TIME: The Caribbean is in Africa”, a new life-inspired comedy series created by Ashley Van der Cruz.
The animated series is adapted from Ashley’s viral video journals chronicling her life as a Caribbean nurse working in America. The project will launch as both a comic book series and an animated series, with the first issue of the comic set for release in July 2026.
Currently in development at the House of Magic Spoof Animation in Lagos, Nigeria, STORY TIME blends sharp cultural humor with authentic diaspora experiences. The series follows Ashley’s journey navigating healthcare, culture shocks, and identity, all through a Caribbean lens.
Spoof Animation is known for its work on acclaimed African animated projects including NAMAKASI, HEARTLINE, and HERO CORPS. With STORY TIME, the studio continues its mission of turning bold, original African and diaspora IP into world-class animation.
“We’re excited to bring Ashley’s story to life,” said at Spoof Animation. “Her voice is hilarious, honest, and universal. This project shows the power of African studios telling global stories with heart and humor.” (Ayodele Elegba, CEO of Spoof Animation).
STORY TIME: The Caribbean is in Africa is now in full production. Further details on the comic release and animation premiere dates will be announced soon.
